Microsoft Site Benchmarking
[PROJECT]
Microsoft wanted to understand the impact of their redesigned Surface “Help Me Choose” experience.
I designed and executed a study that measured user engagement, feature use, and return on investment of the redesigned tool.
Throughout the project, I partnered closely with the UX design team to interpret and evaluate the design objectives.
[OBJECTIVE]
Our goal was to evaluate Microsoft Surface’s product configurator tool based on its ability to inspire user confidence in recommendations that lead to product purchases.
With business and UX stakeholders in mind, I designed a study that analyzed clickstream analytics and measured effectiveness of the design strategy.
[WORK]
Benchmark study design
I conducted the benchmark analysis of the “Help Me Choose” tool based on site analytics for US + top 5 market cohorts. We rounded out the study by including user session recordings to understand real human behavior.
Design partnership
I identified independent variables in the design and interviewed UX leads to understand their objectives in order to provide accurate analysis. These independent variables were mapped to performance metrics to demonstrate business impact.
Report design & delivery
I wrote a custom report and presented findings to design teams, site clients, and extended Microsoft stakeholders.
[IMPACT]
[Demonstrated Success]
The study proved the optimization achieved its objectives. The resulting experience increased user confidence in product recommendations and drove increased revenue for the site.
[Buy-In on Design]
Microsoft sought to replicate success by scaling the design across similar tools in their portfolio.
